Day 23 – Versailles, France
We got up very early, had breakfast with the birthday girl, and took the metro for about 30 minutes to Versailles. When we arrived, Versailles looked massive and beautiful.
We split up into two groups of Mama and me in one and the girls in another group. The Jennifer and I looked through many rooms while listening to the ADULT audio guide (not the kid’s one!). Each section of the palace had about ten super beautiful rooms. There were a lot of magnificent paintings and sculptures. We learned about the Sun King’s life (Louis XIV) and his rule over France from 1643 to 1715.
One section had rooms named after all Greek gods and were decorated with paintings of the gods. My favorite was the Hercules room because the paintings looked three-dimensional.
After we explored the rooms, we met with the girls at a fancy tea room called Angelina’s. I had hot chocolate, a croissant, half of my sister’s chocolate dessert, and half of my lemon dessert. The croissant was amazing. When I was finished eating, I was full and plump.
Next, we split up again, and Mama, Katie, and I went to the gardens. We were exhausted, so we found a bench, and Mama and Kate slept while I listened to my book.
When Mom, Addie, and Priscilla were done looking at the palace, they brought us strawberry and vanilla ice cream, and we walked through the gardens to the long canal. We rented two boats, and Mama and Mom rowed us all around! I love it – it was so much fun!
We finished and had lunch, and then we got an Uber. It never came. We got another one, and it never came. Five times they canceled! We finally had to walk 30 minutes to get back to the front of the palace, and we finally got an Uber to take us to the train station.
When we got to our stop, we tried to get snacks from a vending machine, but they kept getting stuck, so we ended up getting double the snacks.
After we got back to the Airbnb we rested until dinner. Addie wanted sushi for her birthday, so we had sushi! And we sang happy birthday to Addie!
We then packed our bags so we were ready for London tomorrow. And then we watched the Bastille Day fireworks! They lit up the sides and top of the Eiffel Tower. It was so cool!
Evan, I love reading your writing. You all are finding super strength to deal with transportation and heat and lots of walking for so many days. I love that you always find water for fun and cooling.
