Day 2 – Lisbon, Portugal

Today was fun but really hot! I woke up at 3:30 am in Massachusetts but 8:30 am in Portugal time. I decided to wake up so I could adapt to the time as soon as possible in Europe. Everyone else woke up at 4:00 am in Massachusetts time and 9:00 am in Portugal time. Once everyone got up, we got dressed and went to go have breakfast. For breakfast, I had a pasteis de nata (custard cake) and some orange juice.

The pasteis de nata tasted like creme brule but without the caramelized sugar on top. I also had a couple bites of a ham and cheese omlette. After breakfast we headed to a castle called Castelo de São Jorge. The castle was beautiful and cool, and I took many pictures. Also, at the base of the castle, there were many peacocks roaming around.

On the way to our next stop we got gelato pops. I got a mango popsicle dipped in chocolate and coconut. It tasted tropical delicious! Then, we walked to a fancy elevator, Elevador de Santa Justa, and waited in line for in between 30 and 45 minutes. The elevator was shaped like a house and led to a top view of part of Lisbon.

Once we got off of the viewpoint, we went to the Museu Arqueológico do Carmo. In the meseum, I took many photos of the artifacts and statues. I even saw a video of some history the museum contains.

We were in the museum for quite some time until we left to go have lunch. For lunch I had a third of a burger, some squid rings dipped in sweet and sour sauce, and a strawberry shake. Lunch was delicious.

After lunch we went to the Rua Augusta Arch  which was very big and cool in person. It was built to commemorate when Lisbon was rebuilt after a huge earthquake in 1755.

Next we went to the Lisbon Cathedral, which had a lot of very old artifacts. It was built in 1147!

By the end of the day, we were all drenched with sweat. We were going to walk to a tram, but we realized that that was farther away then our airbnb was, so we decided to walk to our airbnb instead, which was still a long, tiring walk. While we were walking, we were out of water to hydrate us, so we decided to grab some cold drinks and treats on the way back. Once we got back to the airbnb, we were all refreshed by the air conditioning. Then I decided to sit on the couch and write this day of my blog.
