Cafe Verde
Today I met up with Kendra and Addison at a fairly new cafe in Lawrence, MA – Cafe Verde. They were hanging out with our friend Meg, and Meg’s mom. Kendra had already eaten when I got there, but the food looked too good to resist, so I ordered a Croque-Madame sandwich – a grilled ham, cheddar cheese and a fried egg on sourdough, and a cafe au lait. The coffee was okay, but the sandwich was great. It came with chips and a salad of greens and shredded beets and carrots. (The salad reminded me of the ones served at the Lady Killigrew out in Montague, MA.) The menu had a lot of great selections – it was hard to pick one thing. We also split some Pao de Queijo, which was delightful.
The place itself is super cute – great atmosphere – despite being a fairly large space, it felt cozy. The work of local photographers lines the walls, a pastry display case showcases all kinds of Brazilian treats, and there are a great variety of places to sit – from booths, to cushy armchairs, to small tables. The coffee is organic and fair-trade, so another plus. Plenty of people wandered in and out while we were there, everyone from moms with their little ones, students, and the stereotypical artist/writer types you’d expect in a hip, socially conscious coffee shop.
I didn’t get a chance to take pictures, so I snagged a few from their website, but I am sure I will be back soon. On my list of things to do is spend a few days shooting photos around Lawrence. There are so many beautiful parts of the city (especially the architecture) that could be juxtaposed with the urban decay that is happening there.
