Traveling to Budapest
I am sitting on the train to Budapest. Kendra is across from me, sleeping peacefully – a nice change from the exhausted, stressed student she has been for the past few days. Yesterday she spent four hours in exams, finishing her last one at 3:30pm. While she was writing answers, I was busy doing laundry and packing for the next leg of our trip.
Last night we attended the McGeorge Law School closing dinner at the Stiegl Brewery. It was nice to have one last meal with all of the great people we had met during our stay in Salzburg.
Kendra had the opportunity to say goodbye to her new friends and professors. I still can’t believe the many people she met during her studies – Justice Kennedy, the President of the International Criminal Tribunal on Yugoslavia, and the President of the International Criminal Tribunal on Rwanda. Not to mention the fabulous professors she had for each class. It was truly an incredible experience – I feel lucky to have sat in on a few of her classes, and to have met all of these accomplished professors and guests.
The evening continued with a late night out. We returned to the dorm at 2am, waking today at 7:15am. After a quick breakfast, we headed back to our room to finish packing. A few goodbyes later, we were on our way to the train station with Mike. Parting ways, he boarded his train to Munich, and we headed inside to book night trains for the remainder of our journey.
Which brings me to now – on the train to Budapest, sharing a compartment with two friendly Austrian girls, and some random boy who doesn’t speak English. We are meeting one of our new friends from McGeorge, Christy, for dinner at 6pm. It will be nice to start our night in Budapest with a friendly face.
I am looking forward to the whirlwind of countries we’ll be visiting over the next ten days! It will be nice to have time to relax and sightsee now that Kendra has no academic responsibilities… I just have to wait for her to wake up. 😉
