Canada – Day 1

We got up early this morning, ready to tackle the long drive to New Brunswick. After stopping for gasoline and propane, we set out north. Kendra and I spent the majority of the seven-hour drive to Calais, Maine alternately sleeping and reading Harry Potter books. (We’re both trying to refresh our memories in preparation for the fifth movie and final book, both of which are being released in July.)

It took quite some time to pass through customs in Canada; we were even stopped for a random search. Kendra and I were just fine with that, as we got to get our passports stamped! This is officially our sixth country that we’ve visited to together. Once on the other side, we stopped at the visitor’s center where we were helped by a lovely man named Steven, who directed us to the New River campground just an hour away. We decided to spend the night there and then travel onward to Fundy National Park.

The campground was fairly deserted, though we were assured the ones in Fundy would be much more crowded over the weekend as Canadians gathered to celebrate July 1st – similar to our Independence Day. After setting up tent in the rain, Kendra and I joined Boris and Jane in the RV for a lovely meal of chicken, potatoes, and salad, followed by fresh cherries for dessert. Afterward, we took a walk along the beach across the street, as the waves from the Bay of Fundy lapped the shoreline.

Tomorrow we are off to Fundy National Park!
