Day 16 – Lake Brienz and Iseltwald

Today we got up really late, and we were going to eat lunch on the mountain, but we slept in too late, so we ate lunch in Lauterbrunnen with a view of the mountains.

We took a train to Interlaken and then took a boat ride on Lake Brienz. The view of the very blue lake was beautiful. We could also see the hydraulics of the ship moving, and the captain steering. There were little windows on either side where we could see the paddle wheels spinning really fast and pushing the water behind us.

After that, we walked to Iseltwald, where we swam for a little while inĀ Lake Brienz, but it was super-duper cold near the shore, so we rented two paddleboards and paddled out to a private island that we couldn’t go on. We circled around the island and saw that it had a church and a viewpoint. We hopped off the paddleboards and swam in the water, which was less cold further away from shore. I loved swimming in the clear water, with the mountains all around us.

After two hours, we headed back to shore to return the paddleboards and get some snacks. Mama, Kate, and I played foosball while we waited for our hot dogs and french fries. (The hot dogs here are literally in a hollowed-out baguette with a ton of ketchup that falls down to the bottom. I used it to dip my fries in when I was done eating the hot dog.) Then we got ice cream for the walk back to the dock. We took the same boat back to Interlaken so we could take the train home.
