Day 2 – Venice to Vienna
After just one day, our place in Venice already felt like home. We started the day early, repacking our bags, eating breakfast, and making lunch for our seven-hour train ride to Vienna. Then we were off! A quick walk from the Airbnb to the vaporetto stop took us to our water bus, which eased back along the Grand Canal to the Venice train station. We had just enough time for cappuccinos and croissants before boarding the train.
Because the twins still ride for free, we opted for 1st class Eurail Global Passes, which allow us 10 days of travel over two months. Totally worth it – we had comfy seats and a server who took our cafe orders! Kendra spent some of the ride blogging, and I put the post together while sipping hot tea.
The views were incredible as we passed through several different mountain ranges, spending our time looking out the windows, reading, eating, and sleeping. I managed to entertain a few folks around us with my snoring.
Once we reached Vienna, we took a short walk to the U-bahn and hopped the subway two stops to Karlsplatz. Seven more minutes later, we reached our Airbnb, unpacked, and left to find dinner. St. Stephen’s Cathedral is a quick walk away, so we headed that way. With the church right across from us, we feasted at Cafe am Dom, trying several Viennese favorites, including Wiener Schnitzel and Beef Goulash.
After dinner, Evan, Kate, and I went searching for a geo-cache (one of Evan’s latest hobbies), which we found fairly quickly. Somehow, we ended up at a sweets shop and walked out with several packages of wafer cookies.
Meanwhile, Kendra and Addison explored a bit before meeting back up with us for the walk home. Now we are settled in for the night, looking forward to exploring Vienna tomorrow!
