The Great Blasket Island and Dingle, Ireland – Day 11

Hi everyoneee. Sorry for the delay! Writing this a day late but we started day 11 with some breakfast in our Castleisland Airbnb. We hit the ground running with an hour drive to the Dingle peninsula where we parked and took a boat to the Great Blasket Island and girl! This boat ride was insane. We saw dolphins and got some history facts from our captain Billy and his sidekick Chris.

After mooring the boat, we took an inflatable dinghy to the island. En route, Billy scooped a Moon Jellyfish and handed it to me where I was so so happy.

The Moon jellies’ sting is so light that we wouldn’t feel it. By the end of the trip, Kate became a pro jelly scooper. Sidekick Chris gave me some vouchers for free tea and coffee and a map to show us the route of the hike around the island (it’s so small). We went up the steep hill up the mountain, had some sandwiches for lunch, and began exploring.

The whole hike around the island/mountain was about 2.5 miles. Along the way, Addie Baddie twisted an ankle, Evan lectured to me about problematic drone technology, Jen took some amazing photos, Kendra told an unfinished story, and Kate meandered with not a thought on their mind except guinea pigs. When we got to the halfway point, Jen and Evan continued their journey up a second mountain while everyone else continued around the mountain and back to the starting point.

It was a beautiful day with loads of sun. Actually, it has been quite sunny every day that we’ve been here, and I’m starting to believe that the Irish claim bad weather to keep us away. Our island adventure ended with some tea, and Kendra got to swim on the beautiful beach. I really wish we had more time! I’m going to tell you to check out the company that gave us a great day: The Great Blasket Island Experience.

On the boat ride back to Dingle, we saw some puffins and we ended our day with some OG Murphy’s!!!!! I got Brown Bread😍 Jen then stick-shifted us an hour back home. 10/10 day, defo recommendo.

Well, we got to hear Veronica’s voice, and a very good one. I loved the personality descriptions of how each person hiked the mountain! You have had a wonderful trip and I am so happy you were a part. Safe and fun travels home.
