Day 21 – Caen to Paris, France
We woke up in Caen and packed up to explore the city before taking our train to Paris. Our first stop was the Eglise Saint Etienne. Inside the church, we saw the tomb of William the Conqueror.
Then we went to a photo exhibit at the Abbaye aux Hommes. The photos were taken by one of my mom’s favorite photographers (Robert Dosineau). We saw a bunch of cool things, like his camera and a bunch of his pictures from post-World War I and World War II.
When we left the exhibit, we toured the Abbaye aux Hommes, and then visited the gardens out front and saw a church that was badly destroyed during WWII – the Church of Saint-Étienne-le-Vieux.
After that, we ate at a cafe. I ate this French toast bread (Brioche) with chocolate chips in it, and it was super buttery. I asked my mom to buy a whole loaf of it, and we totally destroyed it on our train ride to Paris.
After the train ride, we took a metro to our home base and were reunited with Priscilla after being away from her. I love our apartment because, out the window, you can see a building known as the twinkling tower or the Eiffel Tower!
My Mama said, “Okay, let’s go to the Eiffel Tower.” We walked all the way to the Eiffel Tower, which took about 20 minutes. At that point, I was very hungry and thirsty. We went underneath the Eiffel Tower and bought tickets for an elevator. We refused to buy the tickets to take the stairs because to get to the first floor, you have to hike up thirty minutes of stairs.
When we were in line, the top-floor tickets sold out right before us. No joke – the people right before us got to go to the top floor, and we could not buy it. Seriously these people had the audacity to not let us spend our money!
We waited about five minutes, and Mom tried hopping in the elevator to go to the top floor, but the people said no. So we went in the elevator up to the second floor. I was super scared even though there were like 500 safety things.
At the top, since we were all hungry, we got a little snack at the Cafe. Everyone hated their snacks except for the best Bauer child (me, Evan!) because I got a waffle with chocolate drizzle and powdered sugar, and my mom got cheesy cookies.
At the top of the Eiffel Tower, we could see Sacré-Cœur, Notre Dame, and the home of the constipated woman, more commonly known as the Mona Lisa. The view was amazing – we could see all of Paris as the sun set.
After the tower, we went on a carousel and took an Uber back to our home base. We found a restaurant nearby, and I, the best Bauer child, got chicken nuggets that were amazing and french fries and a fancy strawberry syrup drink – so much sugar!!!
It was super late when we returned to the Airbnb (almost midnight!), and we could see the twinkle tower twinkling. We were all so tired we went right to bed!
Evan, that looked like a great photography exhibit. You are getting lots of exercise and having so much fun. You will hold onto the memories forever.
Evan, you’re a riot! I want to hear more from you and your description of your food.
xoxo
