Gear Review: Stonz Rain Bootz and Booties

Stonz Rain Bootz

The first thing Addison said when we opened her Stonz Rain Bootz was, “Mama, these are the most awesomest boots ever!” I think the color pink won her over, but the comfort and warmth of these boots are what kept her wearing them even during the cold weather of winter. Made with natural rubber and featuring a 100% cotton quick-dry liner, these boots are perfect for rainy, puddle-filled days. And believe me, Addie makes sure to test them every time a puddle is available.

Despite a lot of use, these boots have held up beautifully – her toes have stayed dry and toasty. The boots are flexible, yet supportive enough for running around and hard play. Reasonably priced at $35.99, they come in Toddler (4-12) and Youth sizes (13-4). If your child is going to be wearing the boots in particularly cold weather, you can add Rain Boot Linerz for another $18.99, though we found pairing the boots with thick wool socks kept Addie’s feet plenty warm even during New England winter weather.

Addie gave her Stonz Rain Boots a thorough testing this winter, spring and summer.

Stonz Booties

While Addison tested the Stonz Rain Bootz, Evan got the opportunity to try out the Stonz Booties. These cute winter booties cost $39.99 and are sized for newborns to 2.5 year olds. Made from water and wind-resistant coated nylon upper with fleece lining, and soft, skid-resistant soles, these booties can be worn alone, paired with Linerz, or slid over shoes. While inside, Evan wore the booties with socks. They were especially great during our winter snowshoeing trip because they kept his feet warm and dry and provided lots of traction on the wooden floors that inevitably filled with puddles as people tracked snow into the cabin. When the trip was over, we just tossed the booties in the wash and they were good as new.

Kate modeling the Stonz booties – notice the two drawstrings on each boot that can be used to cinch them tighter.

We ordered the booties a bit on the large side because we wanted to pull them over his hiking shoes so he could wear them while snowshoeing. (The booties are not very structured, so they can’t really be used with snowshoes on their own.) Because of the wide opening and quick drawstrings with toggles, they were a cinch to get on and off over his shoes. The drawstrings also keep the boots securely on – a major plus since we have had so many winter boots fall off the kids while playing in the snow.

Evan wore his Stonz Booties all winter, indoors and out!

The rain bootz and booties are made by Stonz Wear, a Canadian company founded by outdoor mom Lisa Will. Frustrated with the lack of warm winter boots for infants, she worked with friends to design her own, and the Stonz Bootie was born. The company now also makes winter boots for older kids (ages 6-14), and Mittz for kids of all ages.

What We Liked

Durability: Months later and the boots look as new as the day they came in the mail.

Warmth: Even in the cold winter weather, both the Rain Bootz and the Booties kept our kids’ feet warm.

Affordability: Both of these products are priced about mid-range as compared to similar boots.

Suggested Improvements

We have no design suggestions – both boots are awesome. The only real drawback is having to buy the Linerz separately – which brings the total cost of the products up, making them more expensive in comparison to other brands. However, the construction of the Stonz Wear products is worth the price.

Though Stonz Wear provided us with the Rain Bootz and Booties, our review of the products is based on our own opinions
