Outdoor Families Magazine Launches January 15!

Outdoor Families Magazine, the brainchild of MommyHiker.com‘s Jennifer Fontaine, goes live at outdoorfamiliesonline.com on January 15th! I am so excited for the launch of this unbelievable project, which, according to Jennifer, “strives to enrich the lives of multi-generational families worldwide by providing unparalleled outdoor and adventure related content meant to inspire a connection to, participation in, and stewardship of the natural world.” Jennifer is joined by Managing Editor Erin Kirkland of AK on the Go, Operations Director Traci Lehman of Walk Simply, and a host of other amazing outdoor bloggers and parents. (And yes, us too! Look for us in upcoming issues.)

What started as an online Facebook group of 37 Outdoor Family bloggers eventually morphed into a weekly Twitter Chat. #OutFam runs every Wednesday from 4:30-5pm EST. We rotate co-hosts, and topics range from backpacking and hiking to roadschooling to gardening, with family being the common thread. As the chat grew, we started adding prizes and giveaways, and even ran a successful Instagram photo contest. It’s no surprise that realizing the success of these ventures, Jennifer pitched the idea of Outdoor Families Magazine.

Outdoor Families Magazine aims to create the next generation of children that love the outdoors by offering easy-to-replicate exploration ideas through field tested product reviews, family adventure travel tips, informative guides and family focused articles.

So what can you expect? Awesome articles written by parents who are raising their kids to love the outdoors. You’ll learn from our successes, and our mistakes! Topics range from gear testing, travel destinations, and adventures to stewardship and tips for getting your kids outside. There is also a podcast in the works, which will feature regular content geared toward outdoor families.

And to help kick off the launch, Outdoor Families Magazine is holding the Great Family Adventure Photo Contest from January 15th through January 29th, 2015! For more details, click here.
