The Fates Sent Me a Beacon
It’s not often a post on my Facebook news feed is as applicable to my life as one from NPR the other day. However, yesterday there was a post about food joints that politicians go to when campaigning in South Carolina. It caught my eye because we are actually IN South Carolina at the moment. Though I’m not into S.C. politics, I am into good southern food and experiences. It seemed to be fate that this particular post showed up on my wall, so I followed my instincts and convinced Kendra and my father-in-law to go with me to The Beacon in Spartanburg.
The place was just as described in the article. If you are looking for a healthy meal, this is NOT the place to go… we were greeted by 70 year old J.C. Stroble, who called out our order to the cooks in the back. I had absolutely no idea what he was saying, but I got what I ordered – a cheeseburger a-plenty (aka piled high with fries and onion rings). The food was pretty good. Not the best I have ever had, but it met up to my expectations of a greasy burger joint. Everyone there was super-friendly (as I have come to expect in the South), and it was a great mix of people – everyone from families with their little ones to business women and men having meetings over piles of greasy fried food. It was totally worth the visit!
Yum, my favorite kind of food!
True Connor! Totally up your alley 🙂
I sitting here looking at the onion rings and drooling down my shirt.
