Last Day in Ireland

Yesterday afternoon we saw everyone off at the Dublin airport. We spent the night hanging out with Cristin, her boyfriend, and Mosbey in the Temple Bar district. Kendra and I then headed back to the hostel at which we spent our first night in Dublin six weeks ago. It’s hard to believe how much we have seen in done since then!

Today we spent a lazy day with Mosbey touring a small part of Northern Ireland. It was rainy and gray, and we all spent most of the time between stops napping on a bus. Our first stop was the supposed hilltop burial grounds of an ancient female giant. We then settled back on the bus as we drove through Drogheda and Dundalk, along the Carlingford Peninsula, until we came to our lunch stop in Carlingford. An old medieval town, we had a quick bite to eat, and then spent a little time exploring the ruins of King John’s Castle, named after Richard the Lionheart’s brother.

Once we were back on the bus, we toured more of the beautiful coast, finally crossing over into Northern Ireland as we entered Newcastle, a beautiful seaside resort. We saw a parade of some kind marching through the streets of the city. We continued on to the Mountains of Mourne, and finally the Ben Crom Reservoir  Built at the beginning of the 20th century, the dam is a massive construction. After hiking up a hefty set of stairs, we walked along the top of it.

On the way back to Ireland, we stopped for some tea and scones. We all fell asleep for the remainder of the ride, and after a quiet dinner, Kendra and I fell asleep, both looking forward to heading back home to the states tomorrow.
