Salzburg, Austria – Day 2
Today was Kendra’s first day of classes. She is taking Fundamentals of Human Rights in Europe and the United States, and Problems in Criminal Justice: International Criminal Law. She has a great deal of reading for both classes. I am impressed with her hard work and ability to focus.
This morning we stopped by our room after breakfast and there were two maids cleaning our bathroom. They had even folded the clothing we’d left on our chairs, and made the beds! Needless to say, we were both shocked and vowed to keep the room a bit more clean.
I made two important discoveries today. First, I found Internet access! Secondly, I found the grocery store. I was very pleased when I was able to buy six liters of water for 2.60 Euros.
Kendra and I met in between her classes and grabbed lunch at a food stand. She had a gyro and I had a falafel sandwich. They were great, and we enjoyed eating them while sitting on a fountain in the Altstadt and people watching.
After she finished her second class, we met up again and made a trip to the grocery store I had found. We bought lunch meat and bread for dinner, some fruit, and snacks. Because of all the reading she needed to do, we headed back to the dorm and she hit the books.
We just went out for a 30-minute walk around the city. I can’t believe how old these building are – some of them date back to the 1200 and 1300’s! The architecture is so interesting. We wandered aimlessly, and checked out restaurants on the way. On the way back to the dorm, we each got a scoop of ice cream. It’s almost 9:30, and I am getting ready to turn in for the evening. I am looking forward to more wandering through the Altstadt tomorrow.
