Budapest in the Evening
We arrived in Budapest just in time for the rain to come down on us during our walk to our Hostel. Not the greeting we were looking for, but a welcome temperature drop we did not mind. We bumped into Christy on our way through the grey streets of Pest. The hostel is seemingly in a run down part of town for lack of a better word. It is interesting to be in a city that so recently was behind the Iron Curtain.
After a quick shower, we set out to find a bite to eat. Much to our surprise and delight, we are only two blocks away from a very trendy street lined with cafes, wine bars, and small sandwich shops. We had a great meal for only 7,780 ft. The Euros were so easy to use in Austria, but Budapest is not going to introduce them until 2007. One dollar is equal to 218 forints. This provides for some head scratching at ATMs, shop counters, and restaurants. I am sure we will have it figured out in a few days.
Tomorrow, Jen and I are going to spend the day out exploring Buda. She already has purchased 72 hour exploration cards for us that give free transportation and free access to many museums and spots of interest.
Until tomorrow, I must sleep.
